Choosing Your Builder
You've made the decision to build; so how do you choose your builder? You may be surprised to know that anyone can be a builder and run a building company.
The difference between a builder and carpenter is:
Builder: a person or company engaged in building or repairing houses or other large structures
Carpenter: a builder or repairer of wooden objects or structures
Unless you ask the right questions you could end up having your home built by someone with little or no carpentry experience in constructing new homes.
The Right Questions
Does your builder:
- Have construction experience?
- Answer you knowledgeably?
- Give advice freely?
- Have open homes to view?
- References from hundreds of happy clients?
- A good reputation?
- Offer a guarantee?
- Communicate quickly and clearly?
- Provide a plain english contract specifiying the different types of building materials, makes & models of appliances and fittings, and a schedule of progress payments.
You get what you pay forThe cheapest quote is not necessarily the best investment in your home.
Lower quality products will wear faster and fail more often meaning more maintenance and costly, inconvenient repairs just to maintain the appearance of your home.
